Nutrition education is presented in a way that exposes students to the many cultures and eating habits in the world. "Everybody Cooks Rice" is a creative way to use literature to teach about nutrition and multi-cultural topics. The book tells about the use of rice in Vietnam, Puerto Rico, India and other countries. In addition this teacher has requested leveled reading materials since she is a new teacher and does nogt have sufficient reading materials in her classroom to meet all reading abilities.
Fourth grade students will experience "Living History" at a local campground, recreating and enacting daily life activities of California settlers in the mid-1800's. The intent is to enhance study of California history by integrating visual and perfoming arts, geology, gold panning and messurment.
Two multi-media instructional units: The Great Solar System Rescue and The Great Ocean Rescue will be purchased and kept in the library to be used as part of the fith-grade science curriculum. Both programs consist of vidoedisk, software, student "expert" books, and a teacher guide.
Funds for a lego logo control lab and supplemantary books to be used to teach students in the G.A.T.E. program at Tahoe Lake, Rideout, and Kings Beach Schools about robotics and computer programming.
Math and Literature books (K-3). This program uses literature to develop mathematical thinking and communication skills necessary for the district APSAC test.
Enhancement materials to develop a program that conforms to the new science standards that were recently adopted. The materials would make the science curriculum more accessible and comprehensible to every one student.
