Funds for materials needed by the students in one fifth grade class at Kings Beach Elementary School to construct and sew their own costumes for a musical production with the help of their teacher and parents.
Funds to subsidize an artist, Ann Colling Dart, to enrich the lessons of 11 classes of students at Kings Beach Elementary Schools through artistic application.
"Project Connect" Powerbook and stylewriter printer for Kings Beach Elementary School and one Stylewriter printer for Rideout School to complement the existing Powerbook there. This equipment will be used to facilitate communication amoung students between schools.
Second Step is a series of curriculum kits designed to reduce impulsive and aggressive behavior in children and increase their level of social competence. It does this by teaching skills in empathy, impulse control and anger management. The Second Step series includes curricula for preschool through 9th grades.
This grant request is to purchase LCD Multimedia Projector, digital camera, picture frames, disk storage and batteries for use by the 4th and 5th graders and staff. This grant will expose the students to the profession of photojournalism as a medium of documenting news events and the daily lives of children in the school. Students will be trained in digital camera use, present their ideas to an editor, and cover the new events. Slide shows and a yearly exhibit will be held to feature the top student photographers.
This grant provides for expository texts for read alouds and guided reading to accompany the GEMS science units. These books will be used as a means of enhancing the science concepts, teaching reading strategies and comprehension and promoting English Language development. An additional amount of $1000 is being asked for, for the Spanish Immersion Program.
This grant will purchase Phonics lesson books (in which lessons are incorporated within the CELL framework), Read Alouds, Poetry anthologies (which emphasize the phonics skill) and magnetic letters (used in the literacy center) teachers will be able to more effectively teach to the state standards for phonics in reading and spelling and in writing.
This grant request is to purchase a class set of thirty combination locks. This will enable fifth grade students to practice opening combination locks before entering middle school. This grant will alleviate one of the major anxieties that 5th graders feel entering middle school. The locks will be inventoried and shared with all the 5th graders.
This program is combining Physical Education Standards with developing student interests and skills for like long participation and application. Student strength balance, coordination, flexibility, rhythm postural control and cardiovascular fitness will be addressed with the creative use of balance/stability balls, aerobic steps and Yoga mats. Student progress and skill development required in state standards will be enriched and enhanced by a program that extends their learning during regular physical education classes and beyond.
