To fund a program run by Tahoe Cross Country Ski Education Association (TCCSEA) and Sierra Watershed Education Partnerships (SWEP) in partnership with the Tahoe Cross Country Ski Area. They will run a series of place-based academic and physical activities that correlate with the California State Science Standards

FOSS Kits

Full Option Science System Modules (FOSS) are hands-on science kits designed by Larry Lowerey at the at the Lawrence Hall of Science. Each module comes equipped with enough hands-on materials for an entire class to be engaged in an activity. Students are asked to observe, compare, relate, organize, analyze and synthesize information through age-appropriate activities and assesments.

Physics Optical System

Optical Systems consist of an aluminum bench with a magnetic strip for attaching the components. These are used for the study of light and its affects in physics. The components include a high intensity light source, a rotating ray table with grid system, lenses, mirrors, polarizers, color filters, and diffraction gratings.

Egg Painting

This project is a multi-site, multi-site workshop to create a series of stories painted on eggs, inspired by what the children have learned about the fragility of the world and caring. Each class will be involved in an in-depth 3 weekcworkshope. Ideas will originate from classroom discussions and by the artist, Cathee van Rossem St. Clair. This program has been previously assisted by the California Arts Council, however they are ineligible for funding this year by this organization.

Sound Reenforcement System

A sound reenforcement system will be purchased consisting of four lavaliere microphones with transmitters and recievers. The system will be used by classroom teachers, performance arts teachers and community groups.

Computer Equipment

This cooperative grant will be used to purchase computer equipment and accompanying software to incorporate computers into high school science curriculum at both NTHS and THS. This will be used extensively in Physics, Chemistry and Physical Science classes and can also be used in cross-curricular lessons involving all computer classes and math classes.

Egg Painting

This is a multi-site, multi-class workshop to create a series of stories painted on eggs, inspired by what the childrenn have learned about the fragility of the world and caring. Each class will be involved in an in-depth 3 week workshop. Ideas will originate from classroom discussions and by the artist, Cathee van Rossem St. Clair. The focus will be the enviornment, endangered species and various cultures throughout the world. In addition a professional performer - a Zulu from Africa - will enrich several classes with storytelling, dance and music.
