Education Matters: School Community Partnership for Success

How do we become the best educational system in the state? This question is at the heart of Education Matters, a community input process designed to identify our region educational priorities. Last spring, we asked hundreds of our residents to identify the key elements to a quality education. These ideas have been distilled into eight priorities that will guide us as we plan and design our next steps around education in the Tahoe Truckee region. We started the process by asking questions: How successful is our current educational system? Where are we strong? Where do we have room to grow? What does success look like? What do we want our students to be like when they leave school? What skills and qualities do we want them to have? What does an educational system need to support the growth of children with those skills? From this process, eight elements of a quality education emerged.

If you were able to attend one of the many forums, we hope you left with a sense of optimism and possibility. It has been incredibly exciting to see the passion and commitment of our community toward education. If you were unable to participate, we hope that as you read this summary of the core ideas, you become excited by the possibilities that exist. We truly have the resources and assets in this region to provide an exceptional educational experience for our children.
