Nancy Welsh – Glenshire Elementary

From bus driver and transportation supervisor to special education aide and school office staffer, Nancy Welsh offers each position her signature “make-it-happen” style.  Nominators gave kudos to how Nancy interacts with students and parents. In her ever-cheerful manner, Nancy greets students by name and inquires how they are. Her incredible memory helps her keep tabs on students’ daily lives and challenges.

 

Evelyn Foster – Truckee High School

During her 24 years at TTUSD, special education assistant Evelyn has touched the lives of students, coworkers and community members with her dedication, expertise and enthusiastic support and teaching.  She’s credited with changing the life of one student who was unable to speak.  Since 1999 Evelyn has been instrumental in supporting a program that helps special education students gain meaningful job experiences.

 

Salvador Torres – Kings Beach Elementary

As a Kings Beach Elementary School custodian for 10 years, Salvador surely breaks the mold.  He goes above and beyond with the students – if he notices that a student is having a hard day he often remembers to check in on that student the following day. Without being asked, Salvador looks for ways to help and proactively anticipates the needs of the school and staff.

 

Blanca Covell – North Tahoe High School

Bilingual aide Blanca Covell has been credited with changing student achievement overnight. Nominators said Blanca improves how teachers teach and positively changes students’ attitudes toward school and learning. She is often found working with students after school , helping teachers communicate with parents or translating info calls or publications.

 

Laura Walton – Tahoe lake Elementary

Longtime employee Laura Walton embodies a “can-do” attitude and positive spirit that is contagious. Her TTUSD hats are many including classroom support aide, yard duty assistant, lunchroom helper, social committee chairman and technology aide.  “Her presence in my classroom has made a huge impact on the success of all my students,” one teacher notes.
