Ukelele

Grant Description
Grant Description:

The Music Department at Glenshire Elementary would like to begin ukelele instruction from second grade through fifth.  Guitar instruction has become difficult due to the large class sizes in the upper grades.  While that instruction will continue in grades three through five, ukelele instruction will be in addition to guitar and recorder instruction during the year.  Additionally, second grade will be able to start on ukelele.Ukelele's are compact, take up less space and are easier to learn to play than guitar.   Because of this, instruction can begin at younger grades and, thus, more students will be impacted by the program.  Because of their size, storing them is easy (there is already a cupboard in the music room available for this storage.)While playing ukelele's, students will be exposed to the elements of music; melody, harmony, rhythm, form, tempo, dynamics and tone.  This introduction may be all some students need to become thoroughly involved in music. Don't forget that music is math and supports math concepts being taught in the classroom.
