Excellence in Education Scholarships

Excellence in Education offers two scholarships to graduating seniors at Tahoe Truckee Unified School District: the McGinity Scholarship and the new Rising Educators Scholarship. The scholarships are offered annually through the Tahoe Truckee Community Scholarship Portal. The application portal opens in January and closes at the end of March.

About the Educators Scholarships: Investing in the Future of Education

Excellence in Education has announced the Rising Educators Scholarships, new this year, to support TTUSD graduating seniors who are pursuing a degree in education or early childhood development with the intention of becoming classroom educators. Up to three scholarships of $5,000 each will be awarded and payable over two years ($2,500 per year.)

About the McGinity Scholarship: Honoring Commitment to Healthcare Education

Established in honor of Sean McGinity, the scholarship commemorates his ambition and the significant contributions of his parents, Shelley and Joe McGinity, to the Foundation. In the late 1990s, the Excellence in Education Foundation built and sold a house in the Northstar community. The proceeds from the sale of the house were used to grow the Foundation’s endowment fund. The “Endowment House'' was constructed mainly from community contributions, including numerous donated hours from General Contractor Joe McGinity. In appreciation for his work, the Excellence in Education board established the McGinity Fund in honor of Shelley and Joe’s son, Sean McGinity.

Sean graduated from Truckee High School in 1986 and received a Bachelor of Science from UC Davis. He was striving to attend medical school when he tragically died in a car accident. In honor of Sean’s ambition and the McGinity’s contribution to Excellence in Education, a $1,000 scholarship will be awarded each year to a TTUSD graduating student who is continuing their education in the field of healthcare.
